Everyone wants to take a vacation, but no one wants to plan one. Having to worry about budgets, destination, when to plan it, and what to do when you’re there can be a time-consuming process. Our personal assistant services include planning your family vacations for you so all you have to do is show up and enjoy!

If you are planning your vacation yourself, though, here are a few tips from us.

Set A Budget And Stick To It

Before you start booking things, figure out exactly how much you can afford and stick to that budget. There are plenty of vacation options at all budget levels, so don’t feel like you have to stretch yourself out too much. Work with whatever works for you!

Pick The Right Time of Year

Depending on where you want to go, you’ll want to pick the right time of year to go there. If you’re going somewhere with a year-round tropical climate, consider going in the winter to cut down on the heat, or the summer if your goal is to maximize your budget. Keep in mind that the price could vary based on what time of year you want to go.

Take Care of Your Practical Needs First

Once you know where and when you’re going, take care of everything you need to at home as early as possible. This includes arranging someone to watch your dog and your house, and ordering any special medication or clothing you might need for the vacation. Make sure you have contingency plans in place so nothing falls apart last minute (we might have a recommendation for someone to watch your house).

Plan Activities

Many make the mistake of planning a vacation, getting there, and having nothing to do but kick their feet up. While that may be ideal for some, many of us want some kind of schedule to work with. You don’t have to plan out every minute of your day, but it helps to have an idea of what you want to do on a day-to-day basis.

Book Flights At The Right Time

Don’t just get online and book the first flight you see. On average, the best time to book a flight is about 2 months before departure, but that can vary depending on destination and time of year. There are plenty of services and apps that track flight price patterns–use one of them to determine when you should book!

Don’t Assume More Time Away is Better

If you have the budget to extend your vacation, great! Don’t just automatically book the most time you can–many people get burnt out and just want to sleep in their own bed again by the time the last day or two of vacation rolls around.
